On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of September, the XIII edition of the Agrifood Economy Congress took place at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, under the slogan “Sustainable, innovative and inclusive agrifood systems for a society in transformation”. This motto synthesizes the growing demands of society to the agri-food activity and perfectly symbolizes the activity carried out in the Murcia Region and in the municipality of Cartagena, headquarters of the Congress.
Topics of great interest and current affairs were addressed by researchers from Universities and Research Centers, as well as by members of the Administration and the business community. Such is the case of the recent strategies of the “European Green Pact” adopted by the European Commission, the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the modification of the Law for the improvement of the agri-food chain, the sustainable management of water or the digitization of the sector and its problems in the face of Covid-19.
The congress also had the participation of numerous innovative projects, among which was the AMDRY C4 project. The attendees, experts in agri-food matters, had the opportunity to visit the project stand and learn about the project’s objectives and comprehensive measures adapted to rainfed agriculture to promote carbon sequestration from the soil and contribute to both adaptation and mitigation. of climate change in Mediterranean systems.
The stand of the LIFE AMDRY C4 project was attended by the Deputy Director General of Agricultural Policy Planning of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ignacio Atance; the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment, Antonio Luengo; the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo; the rector of the UPCT, Beatriz Miguel, and the president of the Association of Agrifood Economy, Eva Iglesias.
